I miss her dearly! Hope she is alright. I made her berry sourdough scones last summer for my grandparents and they loved them. Unfortunately, I don’t have the recipe in my email or downloaded. Do you happen to have a record of this recipe? Thank you so much!🫶🏼
Hi Blakely, I don’t have that recipe — I only have a few of the Christmas cookies and this adapted chocolate cake. But I think if you google around for berry sourdough scones, you will find a very similar recipe. I still haven’t heard anything about where Chapin has gone, but I have heard a few rumblings that some of her recipes / photos might have been, uh… borrowed, from other creators. Can’t speak to much, but I did do a reverse google image search on a few of the images she had posted, and I did find them posted on other blogs/websites. It’s sad and disheartening and I still very much miss her voice and presence.
Dear Kristina, Your friend will always be there in your thoughts. Just consider her taking a break. Now on to sour dough starter. During the covid trauma my neighbor and I decided to each make a sour dough starter. I don't remember how many days I was into making it and at the end it was a bust. I gave up and it bothered me the waste of flour it to took each day to add and toss. So although I would love to make the Sourdough cake thank you for sharing the recipe. In my dreams..... Love Aunt Janie
Sourdough is such fun! It can take a little work up front and feel a bit fiddly, but once it’s going it is amazing. But I totally understand you could probably substitute 50 grams buttermilk and 50 grams flour instead of the 100g starter in the recipe. That might mimic the acidity and consistency of the starter pretty closely! But I can’t promise anything because I haven’t tried it. 💚💚
Thank you so much for writing this. I think about Chapin and her now-deleted Substack, A Sourdough Story, weekly. I was a newer fan of hers, and her disappearance has shocked me.
I have long debated posting something on Substack or elsewhere asking if anyone knew if she was alright, but have always hesitated because there's a high likelihood she does not want to be found. I, too, would like to check on her and see if she needs anything. Now, I see enough people are clearly missing her presence, I feel somewhat comfortable talking about this.
Needless to say, she was wildly talented, and she's sorely missed!

Oh wow, thank you for sharing this info! Good to know.
Thank you for sharing the recipe! I’ve never made a sourdough cake, but I’m excited to try it.
Thank you Anna! Let me know how it turns out if you do. 🌈💛
